FFXIV Player account bans

A number of players have turned to Reddit to try and find out why their user accounts have been banned by SE for “Cheating and Botting” but have not done anything. (Example 1, Example 2, Example 3) SE also just posted a notice about activation issues with software purchased through unauthorized 3rd party sellers, specifically purchasing the Steam version through any retailer other than Steam/Valve. Is it possible that these two issues are related somehow, and they linked a number of RMT accounts with purchases of software from other sources? Hopefully very few innocent players were caught up in this dragnet and this issue can be resolved without much problem.

FFXIV / PSO2 crossover event confirmed

Japanese sci-fi MMO Phantasy Star Online 2 will soon be invaded by Elder Primal Odin from FFXIV, and its heroes go into battle with FFXIV-themed weapons. According to a live event held recently, PSO2 will get a bit of Eorzea this summer.

It was not mentioned at this event if FFXIV will play host to any PSO2-themed events, but we may learn more about this during the Producer Live Letter this weekend.  {Please look forward to it!}

Yoshi-P Responds to Novice Network feedback

We have an English translation to FFXIV Producer/Director Yoshi-P’s response to player feedback on the new Novice Network implemented in Patch 3.2. The Official Forums post is rather lengthy, but a quick TL;DR version is as follows:

New Adventurer status will remain until players complete MSQ “Before the Fall” and have played over 168 hours OR have removed the status manually.

Mentors will be removed from the Novice network chat when they go AFK to allow for other mentors to actively participate

The Auto-Join feature will default to Off for mentors in 3.25

Considering different mentor types, eg. DoH/DoL, PvP

Possibility of new players to automatically join or display a confirmation to join the Novice network

The post goes into greater detail on the discussion that the development team has been having regarding this new feature, and hopefully it can become the place where new players can receive the assistance in the game that it was intended to be.

Final Fantasy XI coming to mobile devices soon!

Square Enix is working with mobile app developers Nexon to port the first Final Fantasy MMO to mobile devices. Final Fantasy XI servers will be shutting down in the near future, but the game will live on in this new form. In an article from website DNReviews.com, they talk about how the game experience will change with mobile:

“The mobile version of the game will have a better battle system that is much smoother and re-designed for the mobile touchscreen. Since the game is online, it will have a better cooperative system which easily brings players together on a mobile device. You will have a vast world for you to explore and meet other players. Whether you wish to trade, talk, or join forces with your friends; the options are endless. Additionally, guilds and Linkshell means of communication will be available to create an entertaining online experience and a thriving community for the players.”

PlayStation VR Pricing announced – what does this mean for FFXIV VR Experience?

Yesterday Sony announced the pricing for the PlayStation VR headset. The base unit will run $399 and will require the PlayStation Eye camera for PS4 to handle the motion and positioning controls. With this announcement, the major 3 players in the VR game, Occulus Rift ($600), HTC Vive ($800), and Sony PSVR ($400) have all announced pricing. With all this said, will this impact whether or not you play Final Fantasy XIV in Virtual Reality? What are some of your thoughts on this?
