Yoshida talks more in-depth about Jumping Potions

Bayohne has posted a translated post from Yoshi-P regarding the highly controversial jumping potions. The biggest thing mentioned is the fact that there will be two different types of potions; one that will bypass the story lines, and the other will jump the player’s level. From the post:

     The types of Jumping Potions

  • While often referred to as a “jumping potion,” we are actually separating this into two different potions that have different effects, so with that said I would first like to define what they are and clarify the main points that will be discussed.
    1. Story Skip Potion
  • This is a potion that will allow you to complete the progress of the main story, and it’s a shortcut through the main scenario.
  • This is currently on sale for the Chinese and Korean versions of the game under the name of “Adventuring Records of A Realm Reborn.” By purchasing this item and using it, it allows you to automatically clear through the final main scenario quest of Patch 2.55, “Before the Dawn.” I’ll speak more on the specifics of how it works below.
  • Furthermore, we’re in the midst of developing the “Adventuring Records of Heavensward” item for the Chinese and Korean versions. This is also a potion that will allow you to clear the main scenario quests through the end of Patch 3.5 Part 2.
  • To compare this to a television series, season one is A Realm Reborn, season two is Heavensward, and the newest expansion Stormblood will be season 3. With this potion, you’ll be watching the memoirs of season 1 and 2 from an inn, and then actually watching season 3. Naturally you will have to actually watch the latest season, so the short cut will only allow you to skip through to the end of the previous season.
    2. Job Jump Potion
  • This is a job leveling potion that can be applied towards a single job. We’ve prepared the potions on a job to job basis such as “Adventuring Records of the Paladin” and “Adventuring Records of the Warrior,” so it’s not the case that you will be able to use a single potion and instantly max out all of the jobs.
  • By purchasing and using this potion, the respective job will jump to level 50. (When Stormblood goes on sale, this will be upgraded to a potion that will jump the job up to level 60, and we plan to eliminate the current level 50 potion.) Furthermore, at the moment we also distribute weapons at a certain item level to go along with this, as well as multiple silver chocobo feathers, which can be exchanged for item level 130 equipment of your choosing. This will equip that job with the minimum equipment needed.
  • With this potion, the player will have to experience the main scenario for themselves, so the main usage would be for those people who want to increase their level to the previous level cap and/or level up additional jobs a bit more efficiently.
  • There are no potions for machinist, dark knight, and astrologian since these require the expansion, and we’re still discussing whether we will add them with the release of Stormblood. We’ve already decided that we will not be including potions for the new jobs that are going to be implemented with Stormblood. (This is based on the core principle that we want players to level the new jobs themselves.

Yoshida goes on to explain that in order to utilize either version of a jump potion, they must have an active service account and be playing a monthly sub. Free trial accounts are not eligible. Once these requirements have been met, the player will be able to purchase a potion from the MogStation. Currently, these potions are available for Chinese and Korean players, and cost the equivalent of about 2500 Yen (between $20-25)

Thank you FanFest – My experience at FanFest 2016

fanfest_mainstageWell, FanFest 2016 is now behind us, but the memory of the experience will live on for a very long time. I had an absolute blast meeting everyone there, from the SE Dev and Community teams, to fellow Podcasters and content creators, but mostly the players and fans of the game. The amount of love and admiration people have for this game and this community is absolutely mind-blowing, and my own enthusiasm was reinvigorated after seeing this first hand.

klauss_foxclonThe event itself was spectacular, from the beginning keynote klauss_aniero_juxta3where Yoshi gave us teaser information on Stormblood, the new Expansion coming Summer 2017; to the concerts featuring Susan Calloway on Friday and The Primals on Saturday. The lines for many of the most popular attractions like the Trials Roulette, Fat Chocobo pictures, and merchandise line were long, but others were moving very smoothly like the mini game booths, PvP, and the Proto-Ultima alliance fight. There was a lot of energy and emotion that kept everyone upbeat and excited which I was personally very glad for as I did not sleep at all during FanFest. Why, you ask? It has to do with my one and only complaint about the event, and that is how the merchandise kiosk was handled.

For those who maprimalsignaturewally not be aware, the lines to buy merchandise were horrific. There was no direction, barely any regulation, and they were painfully slow. To those who got merch the first day, you have both my sympathy and my jealousy, as many spent the entire day in line to get swag and did not get to experience any of the other events. Hundreds of people were turned away at one point, and it wasn’t until later in the day when they started handing out priority tickets for the following day to those in line who would not get served before the close of the day’s events. SE also announced they were going to give out a limited number of time-stamped tickets for the next day, which had many klauss_eskaliapeople, Luna and myself included, spending the night in line to get them as we wanted to make sure to get the items we wanted. Despite the lack of sleep from this, I had a lot of fun talking with the other players in line. We ended up starting a mini LAN party with our laptops, and did what we could to keep awake and excited to get our spot in the merch line. This made the next day’s adventure to buy items much easier, but at the expense of many others not able to buy anything. I sincerely hope the community team takes a good long look at how this part of the event was handled, takes feedback from the community, and can come up with a way to make sure that everyone has an equal chance to buy souvenirs from SE. That, and the fact that the main item I was hoping to get, the Lore book, was sold out before we had a chance to get in line were the two biggest complaints I had about the event. There were other small things that could be improved upon, but lets save that for another time.

klauss_ethysWith this being said, every other experience I had at FanFest 2016 was positive, memorable, and downright amazing. I met some fantastic people, and I want to make sure to shout out as many of you as I can remember. The podcasters – Aniero, Juxta, Eskalia, Kallo, and Nika from LBR; Pete and Avi from She Heals I Tank; Rubi and Yelta from Gather Together; Cirrisian from SBXIV; Flattuss and Shyntyrr from Maelstrom Radio; Remix Sakura and Emi from MuseCastXIV; Chille from PDR, MGR, and PSU and Garri from PSU. The content creatorklauss_jnfs and personalities – Mr. Happy and Sly AKA Grey Fox, Ethys Asher, Nariko Star, FusionX from GamerEscape, JoeNeverFails, Samus Rageborne and Sonoma from BlueGartr. The awesome people – Tom Irwin, Belle Dandy, Cyrillo Rongway, Lady Couture, Valdrake Knechtschaft, Jynx McNinja, Cinnamon Riesling, and Ryael Arkash. And last but most definitely not least, the SE Community and Dev teams – Aya and Chenin, Matt Hilton, Mr. Ozma, Koji Fox, Soken, Foxclon, and Yoshi-P. I know there are a few that I am forgetting and for that I am sorry. I am terrible with names, but I still am so happy to have met such an amazing group of people. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making my first FanFest an event that I will never ever forget.

Moogle-Go-Round Radio Episode 11 – EU End Game

On this episode of Moogle-Go-Round Radio, Paul and Chille discuss end game raids and new features coming in the next patch with Ash and Sareturu from the Wryven FC on Odin.

Patch 3.4 main scenario and dungeon previews

With patch 3.4 a couple of weeks away, we are starting to get new information about the upcoming Main scenario, as well as the two new dungeons, Xelphatol and the Great Gubal Library (Hard).

Patch 3.4: Soul Surrender

After a thousand years of bloodshed and sorrow, the shade of Nidhogg, rage incarnate, fell at last to the Warrior of Light. So it was that the Dragonsong War drew to a close, and the survivors, bloodied but unbowed, could begin to pick up the pieces. A new day dawns in Ishgard, and her champions may rest easy─if only for a moment. For every ending marks a new beginning.

Dungeon: Xelphatol

Forced to flee the Black Shroud for fear of the elementals and their boundless wrath, the Ixal settled the windswept mountains of Xelphatol more than five hundred and fifty years ago. Since that day, they have labored tirelessly to eke out an existence in these harsh and unforgiving lands, slowly but surely expanding their dominion over the entire region. Yet the Ixal have never forgotten that which was once denied them, and so they seek divine intervention once more─to summon Garuda and beseech her strike down their enemies. In the shadow of the First Mountain, the ritual nears completion, as a brave hero once more races against time to deliver the realm from destruction.

Dungeon: The Great Gubal Library (Hard)

Though long-since abandoned by its Sharlayan keepers, the Great Gubal Library does not want for visitants, its halls ever stirring with the voidsent guardians who walk its corridors. With danger at every turn, the fool who dares trespass here would find not wisdom but certain doom. Yet it was not long ago that an intrepid adventurer braved the deepest depths of this forbidding vault of knowledge, returning unscathed and wiser for the experience─a feat of daring that would be sung of the realm over. Mayhap that is why an anonymous individual would beseech that selfsame champion to return in search of long-forgotten knowledge. One can only hope this venture proves yet another enlightening lesson.

Both dungeons have a minimum ilvl requirement of 210. Full details can be found at the Lodestone.

Time to set the stage for the Rising!

With the 3rd anniversary live stream coming up this Friday, we knew the in-game anniversary event, the Rising, would not be far behind. The annual event runs from Saturday, August 27th at 1 AM PDT until 7:59 AM on Monday, September 12th.

“The Crystal Caravan has come to Ul’dah, and plans to put on the performance of a lifetime. To ensure the actors can truly bring their roles to life, however, the troupe leader seeks those who can tell them more of the great heroes who will be portrayed on stage. Adventurers with a love for the theater and the arts are encouraged to seek them out.”

Rewards this year include new indoor and outdoor furnishings, a Heavensward Orchestrion roll, and new minions. Full details are available on the Lodestone.

Nova Crystallis talks with Yoshi-P at Gamescom about Raids

In a recently published article from website Nova Crystallis, they talk about their interview with FFXIV director Yoshida about the current tier of raiding and what may be to come. From the article:

“The player feedback that we received with the Binding Coil of Bahamut series was they wanted more challenge, they wanted more difficult content,” Yoshida explained. “So with this feedback with Alexander we implemented two versions of the same content with Normal Mode and Savage Mode. With Savage Mode, we made it really brutal – really difficult with so many gimmicks and mechanics.

“However, we heard feedback from players that now the Savage Mode of Alexander is too difficult. For the next one we’re trying to make it easier because what we want to do is bring more people in to challenge this raid content.”

Yoshi-P also talks about player feedback in terms of the storyline, saying they would like something more engaging like the Coil story was, and he says he hopes the final chapter of Alexander brings that excitement players are asking for. {Please look forward to it!}
