Patch 3.4 main scenario and dungeon previews

With patch 3.4 a couple of weeks away, we are starting to get new information about the upcoming Main scenario, as well as the two new dungeons, Xelphatol and the Great Gubal Library (Hard).

Patch 3.4: Soul Surrender

After a thousand years of bloodshed and sorrow, the shade of Nidhogg, rage incarnate, fell at last to the Warrior of Light. So it was that the Dragonsong War drew to a close, and the survivors, bloodied but unbowed, could begin to pick up the pieces. A new day dawns in Ishgard, and her champions may rest easy─if only for a moment. For every ending marks a new beginning.

Dungeon: Xelphatol

Forced to flee the Black Shroud for fear of the elementals and their boundless wrath, the Ixal settled the windswept mountains of Xelphatol more than five hundred and fifty years ago. Since that day, they have labored tirelessly to eke out an existence in these harsh and unforgiving lands, slowly but surely expanding their dominion over the entire region. Yet the Ixal have never forgotten that which was once denied them, and so they seek divine intervention once more─to summon Garuda and beseech her strike down their enemies. In the shadow of the First Mountain, the ritual nears completion, as a brave hero once more races against time to deliver the realm from destruction.

Dungeon: The Great Gubal Library (Hard)

Though long-since abandoned by its Sharlayan keepers, the Great Gubal Library does not want for visitants, its halls ever stirring with the voidsent guardians who walk its corridors. With danger at every turn, the fool who dares trespass here would find not wisdom but certain doom. Yet it was not long ago that an intrepid adventurer braved the deepest depths of this forbidding vault of knowledge, returning unscathed and wiser for the experience─a feat of daring that would be sung of the realm over. Mayhap that is why an anonymous individual would beseech that selfsame champion to return in search of long-forgotten knowledge. One can only hope this venture proves yet another enlightening lesson.

Both dungeons have a minimum ilvl requirement of 210. Full details can be found at the Lodestone.

“The Crystal Caravan has come to Ul’dah, and plans to put on the performance of a lifetime. To ensure the actors can truly bring their roles to life, however, the troupe leader seeks those who can tell them more of the great heroes who will be portrayed on stage. Adventurers with a love for the theater and the arts are encouraged to seek them out.”

Rewards this year include new indoor and outdoor furnishings, a Heavensward Orchestrion roll, and new minions. Full details are available on the Lodestone.

Nova Crystallis talks with Yoshi-P at Gamescom about Raids

In a recently published article from website Nova Crystallis, they talk about their interview with FFXIV director Yoshida about the current tier of raiding and what may be to come. From the article:

“The player feedback that we received with the Binding Coil of Bahamut series was they wanted more challenge, they wanted more difficult content,” Yoshida explained. “So with this feedback with Alexander we implemented two versions of the same content with Normal Mode and Savage Mode. With Savage Mode, we made it really brutal – really difficult with so many gimmicks and mechanics.

“However, we heard feedback from players that now the Savage Mode of Alexander is too difficult. For the next one we’re trying to make it easier because what we want to do is bring more people in to challenge this raid content.”

Yoshi-P also talks about player feedback in terms of the storyline, saying they would like something more engaging like the Coil story was, and he says he hopes the final chapter of Alexander brings that excitement players are asking for. {Please look forward to it!}

More information on the upcoming Lore Book

On a forum post from July 3rd, Fernhalwes aka Koji Fox released not only some additional information on his upcoming lore book, but the full lyrics for the Sephirot battle theme Fiend.

Regarding the book, Koji apologizes for the lack of updates in the past couple months, but he says the book “has had a rusty dirk to my kidney these past few months, threatening to gut me should I even let my thoughts stray from completing my mission.” He is continuing to work very hard to get the translations completed to have the book ready by NA FanFest, and will try to get some early glimpses to us between then and now.
